Here is what we use for baby/kid bodies:
To clean kids:
I used to use California Baby unscented baby wash for sensitive babies on Cal after he had such bad excema at 1 year-2 years and it made it worse to use Aveno baby wash. But the California Baby wash is so expensive- about a dollar an ounce and the main ingredient (and in many other natural baby washes like Burts Bees) is decyl polyglucose or decyl glucoside. So I go online now and order just that chemical from Essential Wholesale in a gallon container and just use only that on the kids body and hair. It's tear free and only has that one chemical in it. It is so much cheaper than natural baby wash per ounce and we use it for washing hands in the bathroom too.
Sunscreen:
We do use California Baby, although I've hear Badger is good too. No reaction from Cal's skin and tear free.
Hand Sanitizer:
I of course want to spray down the kids every time they have been crawling around on the floor at Walmart while I try to pick out a new toothbrush for them because they used the last one to "clean" the toilet. BUT, apparently regular hand sanitizer has alcohol, which, when babies ingest by sucking off the hand sanitizer you just put on them, they can get drunk enough to pass out. It luckily never happened with Cal who got slathered with the stuff, but I have found a natural hand sanitizer called Clean Well that uses non-toxic thyme oil to kill 99% of germs. So I got a three pack on Amazon after Target stopped carrying it. I also heard they are getting together with a cleaning company to offer non-toxic disinfectant sprays for the house if you can afford them. I think they are in the grocery store/Target.
Cradle cap:
You guys know about the cradle cap thing where you use olive oil on the baby's head, let it sit, then comb off the cradle cap right? It is sooo hard not to just pick that stuff off dry, but it is so worth it to oil it up first.
Toothpaste:
At one point I was giving Cal those fluoride drops the Doctor prescribed. Since I was giving drops, I used a fluoride-free child toothpaste by Weleda (orange and green label). Then I found a book at the Red Bluff Library (The Fluoride Deception) about fluoride giving lab rats some serious issues and other naughty things. Scott was not impressed with me making decisions based on a random scare tactics book, but oh well, it's not the first time. So I stopped giving drops to him and used Weleda until I found a fluoride-free toothpaste at Trader Joe's for a couple dollars (instead of 8 dollars for Weleda at the heath food store). I also stopped using the fluoride paste. Then, I got pregnant with Quentin and slept with candy tucked into my gums like I did with Cal to keep from feeling too nauseous to sleep. But this time, a few months later I had 4 or 5 new cavities at my check up on the front of my teeth right by the gums. I started to think maybe the fluoride had something going for it, but maybe just topically instead of ingested. So, now Cal and I use Trader Joe's brand mint WITH fluoride to spit out and Quentin gets just a teensy bit of the same stuff which he swallows, then pretends to spit out.
